Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

Could this be another potential bargain candidate for the third-line center spot? Ryan Carter has struggled to find a consistent role with a good Ducks team, but he's young, talented, and he'd probably fit right in here. He's also only owed $750K. Beyond that, he's got a big body, and he can play on the wing if we ever needed or wanted him to. So what say you, CC nation? Does Ryan Carter have a home in Carolina?

4-5-9 in 38 games last year. Was he back and forth between the Ducks and the minors? Or was he sidelined by injuries? I’m not very familiar with him.

Little of everything.

He missed 25+ games with a recurring foot issue that was eventually diagnosed as a broken bone, but he also saw a lot of healthy scratches once he recovered from that. Hasn’t seen any AHL time since ’08.

Him or Nash?

Nash would surely bolt back to college if the team brought in a center.

Which is fine with me.

Gives him more development, a chance to lead a team, and gets us one year closer to his prime on his entry-level deal.

No one wants to give Matsumoto a chance?

Right now, it would seem that Nash – if he doesn’t go back to Cornell -, Matsumoto, Dwyer and maybe even Dalpe will be in competition for the 3rd and 4th line center spots. I’ve never seen him play (at least haven’t noticed him), but does adding Ryan Carter really add much to that equation other than maybe a little physicality? The guy has decent size, but he hasn’t scored 40 points in a season since he was playing in the under 18 league. Matsumoto has scored 60 in his last two seasons at the AHL. So, I can only see the organization take a flyer on Ryan Carter if they feel we need more of a physical presence in the bottom six rather than skill.

Fourth-liners are typically far more useful for their grit and toughness than their scoring.

Not gonna score much in five or six minutes a game on the ice.
