Jimmy V Golf Tournament This Weekend

Carolina Hurricanes Rod Brind`Amour at last year's Jimmy V Classic. (photo by LTD)

The annual Jimmy V Golf Classic is scheduled for this Sunday, August 22, and as always the Carolina Hurricanes will be well represented.  This year's participants include:  Rod Brind`Amour, Erik Cole, Joe Corvo, John Forslund, Paul Maurice, Chuck Kaiton, Chad LaRose, and ex-Cane Bates Battaglia.

For a complete list of scheduled attendees, check out this link.

This year's tournament will be held at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State and the event will start at 8:30 a.m.  Check here for ticket information.  It's obviously a worthwhile event to attend and also a great opportunity to obtain all the autographs you can handle.

Speaking of charities and good causes, Eric Staal recently donated all the hats thrown to the ice after his most recent hat trick last season, to local hospitals.  Over 350 hats were delivered to Duke and UNC hospitals last week with another 150 plus sent to REX on Monday of this week.  MyNC was there last week and has this report.  Apparently, the hats are frozen for three days to make sure they are germ free.

The Carolina Hurricanes are promoting their own golf tournament and also have a story about the hat donation at this link.

Just another benefit of having an NHL team in the local area.

Thanks Bob

the Jimmy V foundation is just one of 3 charities my family donates to. and not trying to sound “politically correct” here but why can’t Bates be “former” in stead of EX….i know it’s a matter of “semantics” and we could debate for years on that topic alone…but to me…it just didn’t look right …after all Bates wasn’t a "bum’ or anything like that , that i can remember…but i was reminded by my wife that if i think i could do a better job, why don’t i write the article…sigh…see another beautiful evening paradise !!! hehehe…If you go, have fun !!

And if it Aint Hockey,It Aint Nothin !!

Needs one Mo name

It looks like Paul Maurice is also on that list. Could you please add him to the article?

Can’t wait for Sunday!

I thought I would post here since Mr. Brind’Amour’s smiling face graces this article. David Glenn interviewed him this afternoon, the interview is here, you need to click on Hour 3 and it’s the first segment in that hour.

Great interview and Rod seems very happy with where he is right now. He was rather nebulous on his plans for the upcoming season, although he did mention the possibility of a stint with the prospects in Charlotte. I think that may mean that he hasn’t been officially assigned a job yet, and if that’s the case, I hope that means we get to see him on the ice next week for the Camp that bears his name.

Oh, and Bob, one more update. Former Cane Scott Walker is also on the celebrity list for Sunday. And as long as we’re mentioning folks associated with the Canes, we should probably mention Ric Flair as well. Wooooooooooooo……

So who’s going?
