Casey Borer: what are his chances?

His career was moving along pretty well until the terrible bus crash that broke his neck. At the end of last season, was Borer back to full strength? Could he have a chance to play himself onto the Canes' active roster this season, or does he need a full season in Albany?

After all the misfortune, it would be nice to see Borer competing at the top of his game with the other young defensemen. But where do the Canes see him fitting in after the injury cost him more than a year and the Canes have added Sanguinetti, resigned Carson, Babchuk and Harrison, and drafted several promising defensemen? Borer, Rodney and Lawson seem to be the odd men out.

No, he wasn’t back up to speed — he missed nearly a full year. This is a big season for him. He’s had knee and neck problems the past two seasons. My guess is he spends in the AHL (Charlotte, not Albany … don’t forget!) since Sanguinetti is probably the No. 8 guy and Rodney can fill in in a pinch.

Everyone has to be pulling for Casey. Before all the injuries he looked like pretty much a sure thing to develop into a solid defenseman. Let’s hope he shows that he is over the injuries and plays so well that he makes the decision on who stays and plays with the Canes very tough. Even if we have to trade him, if he overcomes all the adversity I would like to see him rewarded with a place in the NHL.

It would make me very happy if Borer filled Harrison’s roster position. However, as Cory notes above, that’s probably better for all involved if it happens next season. The fact that there isn’t much room on the NHL team may be the best thing for Borer as he can worry first and foremost about getting healthy and not about trying to make it to the NHL.

Is it possible to be addicted to hockey?

I hope he manages to get back to his old form and potential – gotta love the underdog!

Before McBain he was my fav Canes defensive prospect. I really hope he has a good year in Charlotte.

Injury a problem?

Actually i don’t think the injury is a problem (physically), but it may affect Casey mentally! The canes wouldn’t be letting him play if they were overly concerned about his health, so it seems if (and this is a big if) he feels it’s a problem (or worries about it) then it’s a Problem!!
but i tend to think his only problem is all the competition at the D-POSITION!!! We’re pretty
deep, now, and he will have a hard time making the Canes, but i’m confident he’ll do a good job in Charlotte! Who knows he might get another shot in Raleigh. if not this year, then next…??!!!
