VERSUS To Televise Hurricanes Four Times This Season

Photo

The NHL and their television rights holders released their broadcast schedules today and the Carolina Hurricanes will be televised four times this coming season by VERSUS.  The Canes were not broadcast at all last season by the U.S. rights holder.

Both games in Helsinki, Finland will be shown, on October 7 and 8.  Also, a game at the RBC against Dallas will be televised on November 29 as well as a game in Buffalo on March 15.

Fox Sports Carolinas will televise another 65 games.  That schedule will be released soon.

We will have more about this later.

Took them long enough. I’ve always thought that VS should show at least one game of every team, instead of just Pittsburgh, Washington, and Philly every week.

Nice, 4 is better than none. So 13 games will be on the opponents feed, I sure hope we don’t have to watch any games like we did last year against Florida on the jumbo-tron that was horrible – CHL games have better coverage.

Quite the turn from last year. I wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that Compuware has become a bigger NHL sponsor.

VS will also be covering the ASG, so a few Canes and the area will get coverage those days as well.

"The increase in pain is way beyond what you would expect a person to play with," said coach Paul Maurice. "Unfortunately it’s even beyond what Tim Gleason can play with, because he can play with just about anything."

Thanks :0) It had a much larger number on it when I started it. One problem with though, it’s a little slow. It needed to show 00:00:00:00 about 3 weeks ago.

I was like “Forty-tw…..that’s a month and a half!? Seriously though, when does the season start?”

Very happy, surprised, wait, is this for real? Can’t wait to watch those games, its funny, it took missing the playoffs to get 4 games on television, apparently going to the ECF is fairly worthless when compared. Regardless, this is absolutely FANTASTIC news!!!!!

Lord have mercy!!! It’s going to snow in August!! LOL I’m stoked that they will be covering the games in Helsinki. I’d been wondering about that. It’s not easy keeping up with the ‘Canes when you live in another state. We have to get Center Ice from our cable co. We at least get to see the games but 95% of the time the pic is crappy even if it’s supposed to be broadcasted in HD. Often times the players look like weeble wabbles skating around. VS on the other hand has kick azz HD in our area. Thanks for posting the info.

NHL Game Center

I really like NHL Game Center; but it is true NHL Game Center does not usually carry the home games for the Canes. We are STHs so that was not a factor for us. ATDHE.NET carries many of the NHL games, but the links are not always dependable. I assume if you are out of NC that the Game Center Live option should work for you because you would not be located in the blackout area. You might want to verify with technical support for Game Center Live.

Not necessarily the case. Parts of South Carolina are considered part of the blackout area because we technically get FS Carolinas even if FS South is broadcasting here instead.

"What Carolina really has going for them is Brandon Sutter. When that kid first showed up, he looked like a skinny little thing that wouldn’t last two weeks. But he’s turned into a real star."

Anyone had experience with the online NHL center ice option directly from the league?

I am probably going to be dropping cable, because I hate time warner and it is crazy expensive for what you get, but the Canes are currently the only thing keeping me subscribed. I would imagine the online option won’t really help me much in that regard though because the local games are PROBABLY blacked out.

Anyways, figured this was as good a thread as any to throw that question out there.

As i understand, NHL Gamecenter is really designed for someone who wants to watch their favorite team from out of market. So if you’re trying to watch a home Canes game from somewhere in the local market, you’ll be blocked, but if you’re located outside the market you’ll be permitted to watch.

LTD’s right. You’ll only be able to watch the games that FS Carolinas or VS doesn’t televise which was a pretty significant number last year IIRC. The nice thing (or things) about NHL Gamecenter is that you can a) watch every other game in the league (minus the ones on VS) which is nice for someone like me who doesn’t have NHL Center Ice or NHL Network and b) have unlimited access to a game archive-each game (even the nationally broadcasted ones) becomes available either 24 or 48 hours after it’s played and you can watch it in its entirety. I’ve relived the Shock at the Rock quite a few times that way. :)

I do get FS Carolinas sometimes. As long as there isn’t a collegiate sporting event going on that is deemed to be more interesting. Like Ole Miss and Alabama women’s basketball.

Game Center Live

I have been a subscriber to Game Center Live and it’s great. If you are in the market area, it’s an issue. ATDHE.NET carries most of the NHL hockey games free but the url links are not dependable.

You can sometimes find the games on Justin TV, too.

The Versus calls for the Finland games (actually all the Europe games) may be a double-edged sword for our good friend Johnny Sideburns. Versus won’t actually send their announcing teams over to Europe, they’ll stay stateside and call the games from their studio here in the US.

So if Forslund gets the call to do one of the Versus games, he stays here, but if they pass him over, he’ll come to Finland with the team.

Which do we wish for? As someone who will be watching the games from Hartwall, I’d love to see the sideburns in Helsinki, but I’m sure many of you do not feel the same way!

Myself personally

i would hope that our beloved Johnny sideburns goes and does the play by play for verses…but if NOT…this stateside bound fan will be happy just to watch the game and turn off the sound in case i don’t like who is or would be doing the play by play…

And if it Aint Hockey,It Aint Nothin !!

Traverse City

Glad to hear they’re picking up some games. What about Traverse City? I haven’t heard if NHL Network or Versus is planning on covering that tourney.
