Traverse City Tournament Roster Released
The Carolina Hurricanes released their roster today for the Traverse City Tournament taking place next month. Included are several recent draft picks that the franchise selected earlier this summer, including: Jeff Skinner, Austin Levi, Justin Shugg, and Tyler Stahl.
A few previous picks are also included. Mike Murphy, Michal Jordan, Tommi Kivisto, Rasmus Rissanen, Kyle Lawson, Zac Dalpe, Matt Kennedy, and Matt Pistilli will also attend.
Newly acquired Riley Nash, Jared Staal, and Cedric McNicoll will be showing their stuff.
As we reported earlier here on Canes Country, the tournament will begin on September 11, at 3 p.m. as the Hurricanes tangle with the Minnesota Wild.
Several of Carolina's participants who won the tournament championship last year, were ineligible this season. A limited number of players with minor league experience are allowed to participate, but none are allowed with over one year of minor league experience.
The Canes filled in their roster with unsigned free agents, including Mike McKenzie, who attended conditioning camp in Raleigh in 2009. You can check out the roster after the jump.
((UPDATE)): McKenzie was just signed to a two-way AHL/ECHL contract by the Charlotte Checkers.

Great to see Mike McKenzie there. He also just signed (like today) with the Checkers so he’ll be in Charlotte this year. I think that pretty much puts a lock on his dad’s book being our next Puck Readers selection.

So you think he’ll definitely be in Charlotte? Seeing that it was a two-way deal made me wonder if he’d spend some time in the ECHL if/once the Canes return some people to the Checkers.
Papa McKenzie must be so proud! I’ll bet Mama McKenzie is breathing a little easier knowing Mike is headed to an organization where the GM is a friend of the family (now did that sound like a scene from the Godfather or what? LOL)
"What Carolina really has going for them is Brandon Sutter. When that kid first showed up, he looked like a skinny little thing that wouldn’t last two weeks. But he’s turned into a real star."
Hmmm. Not sure. When I wrote that I hadn’t seen the article yet – so with a 2-way I suppose he might be in Florida. They have 27 forwards signed between the Canes and Checkers. Wouldn’t take much to need a hole to fill. if Skinner signs this year, that’s 28.

I also hope Tommi Kivisto (another TommiK?) can make it. According to @jhiitela the Helsinki Jokerit season starts on Sept 16th, so he could play in Traverse City and be back in time for the Finnish Pro season.

regarding getting TV coverage of Traverse City
Just read this on the canes FB page in the comments under this announcement:
The NHL has announced that if it gets enough pre-tournament interest they’ll put it on NHL Network. If you go to NHL.com you can send them an email stating your interest. I’ve already sent like 5 myself, and I know that a lot of other people have too.
I’ll see if I can find a more precise link/email address.

CanesCountry viewing party?
"The increase in pain is way beyond what you would expect a person to play with," said coach Paul Maurice. "Unfortunately it’s even beyond what Tim Gleason can play with, because he can play with just about anything."
I used this site: http://www.nhl.com/ice/feedback.htm
and selected “NHL Television broadcasting – US & Canada” as my “subject”.
If there’s a better way to reach them – let’s hear it. I suppose we can tweet to @NHLNetUSA too.

NHL Network Feedback Form
Here’s the link to the NHL Feedback Form to request televising of the prospects tourney. If you find another one, please let us know.
Dalpe might do that !
as he has something to prove to some…but we shall see huh ?
On a sad note the canes organization lost a very good player who went and signed a 1 year 2 way deal with TB Mike Angelides went else where…and i had to thank sanpiper214 for the heads fr that…gee too bad we can’t get her & hers to move this way…as and while abany is a good city…but i thinks we has more to offer her in NC …but getting back to Angelides…i can’t blame him for moving on as the canes & checkers have much talent new & vet squads fighting for a place that are getting fewer & fewer he had to find a place where he could play …while i hate to see him go, but i do wish him all the best !! Good night all…I am going back top bed…my fever is down to 102 and i still feel like i won the battle with getting hit by 2 mack trucks and garbage truck…butstill pretty weak and feel oh so crappy…Be Safe !!!!!!!
And if it Aint Hockey,It Aint Nothin !!
That Checkers 3rd Sweater ROCKS !!!
