wow

"a bit of love"

First, Wow indeed.

Second: This makes me wonder if a player allowed to go to their knees in an NHL shoot out? I know they can’t stop or turn around or score on a rebound, but are those the only moves disallowed? Would this be legal?

Is it possible to be addicted to hockey?

I would think that would be legal… He kind of stopped forward progress in the crease which would be illegal but they let that go all the time (the spin-o-rama is a good example).

That is a showcase right there. I think the most impressive part is him roofing the shot with the puck 3 inches from the goalies pads. That is pure scoring ability, he has the puck on a string. His stickwork doesn’t look too different from that of a Pavel Datsyuk. I also like the fancy footwork, the deke from the knees, and when he threw on the breaks in front of the net a-la Jussi. PRetty much everything was great.

btw, I only knew about this b/c they mentioned it on XM Home Ice on my ride in to work.

Then you haven’t been paying attention to Twitter :)

"The increase in pain is way beyond what you would expect a person to play with," said coach Paul Maurice. "Unfortunately it’s even beyond what Tim Gleason can play with, because he can play with just about anything."

Well, I really couldn’t post it from my car. I heard it on the way in, then got to it a bit later to post.

Give him a hat and sunglasses and sign him up for the skills competition during the All Star weekend.

Does he have to get them from Geno too?

God no, that was horrible, there was nothing redeeming about that whole stunt. I still can’t believe he won because that – epic fail.

Canes Now just linked it and spoke to Skinner on the phone from Camp Canada.

Oh yeah he’s a keeper. Wow.

"What Carolina really has going for them is Brandon Sutter. When that kid first showed up, he looked like a skinny little thing that wouldn’t last two weeks. But he’s turned into a real star."

I just found a re-cap of Day One of hockey work today at Team Canada Camp. (yesterday was fitness testing mostly). Pierre McGuire and Gord Miller of TSN talk about who really stood out. Guess who gets the full-on McGuire love? The incredibly talented Jeff Skinner. Here’s the link, but I transcribed what he said below.

The piece is titled "Pierre McGuire and Gord Miller discuss who stood out during Day 1 of Canada’s World Junior camp."

Starting at about :45 and again he returns to Skinner at the end.

Finally you have to look at Jeff Skinner…he might have the best hockey sense of any player on the ice today. Because of the way he thinks the game offensively, the way he finishes plays off, his hands are exceptional. This is one of those guys that you can’t miss and he would be HUGE bonus for this team.

Again I can’t stress enough with Jeff Skinner: he had 50 goals playing w/the Kitchener Rangers this season. … He has unbelievable poise around the net, he can kill penalties, he can play all three forward positions. He had a bang-up first day of camp.

In another piece, they talk about Seguin, Gormley and Hall as the question marks because they may well be NHL players and therefore not available for the tournament in Buffalo. This seems to be about kids who did not play in the 2010 WJC.
