First post...Helsinki

Hey everyone, I'm a long time Whaler / Caniac fan from Canada currently working in Germany and have been following this site for the last year.  My wife and I are excited to be going to the opening night game in Helsinki on October 7th and we were wondering if there were any plans for all the Caniacs to meet up before / during / after the game?  Anyone have any ideas?  I think it would be an awesome experience to meet up with Caniacs from various places.  Thanks.  Allen

You came to the right place, Allen!

First of all, welcome!

Second of all, we have over 250 Canes fans traveling over as part of a travel package through AAA, and about another 30-50 (hard to get exact counts) travelers who made separate plans. Trust me you will not be able to miss us!

Most of us have group tickets for the game through AAA, I know the lower levels are in Sections 117 and 118, not sure about the upper level seats, but we won’t get our tickets in hand until we arrive in Helsinki. We’ll be traveling to and from the games as a group from our hotels, so we’ll need to schedule any pre- or post-game activities around the logistics from the travel company. Most of us are staying at one of the two Radisson properties, either the Plaza location or the Seaside location.

I’m going on the trip and will be blogging for Canes Country. Click on my profile and you can link to several articles that have been published here over the last few months about the event. We just had a group meeting a couple of nights ago with the AAA travel staff and got a lot more details about the trip logistics, and I owe a new article with updates which I hope to get out over the next week. So stay tuned here at Canes Country for all the latest information.

Also, join our Facebook group where you can “meet” a lot of the folks going on the trip and join in on the discussion.

Look forward to meeting you in Helsinki! Hyvä Canes!

The upper level sections are 302, 303 and 306

Hey LTD, thanks for the response and the welcome. I’m glad to hear that plans are already in the works – hopefully the travel company will be flexible with the logistics ensuring we’ll get a chance to hang out with the larger group. Our seats are in section 109 – I hope we’re not surrounded by a bunch of “Wild” fans. And we’re staying at the Radisson Seaside, so it sounds like we won’t be the only Caniacs there. I’m looking forward to meeting as many of the Caniacs from CC as possible and having a blast supporting our team. I just need to get my wife and myself some Cane gear for the game. :o) I’ll look forward to additional updates regarding meeting spots in Helsinki.

Hiya Canadian_Caniac! Welcome to CC (even though you’ve been here for a while). You will NOT be able to miss the Caniacs at the hotel. The Seaside sounds really nice.

There’s a Hop On – Hop Off Sightseeing bus in Helsinki that might be worth checking out. If it’s like the one I did in Edinburgh, you can use it as transportation to get around town, even if you’re going to see something not on their tour. Might be fun to do that with a group of Caniacs one day we’re there.

Welcome! I can tell you firsthand that you couldn’t have picked a better group of people to hang out with in Helsinki!

"What Carolina really has going for them is Brandon Sutter. When that kid first showed up, he looked like a skinny little thing that wouldn’t last two weeks. But he’s turned into a real star."
