The Carolina Hurricanes just announced that they have assigned winger Zach Boychuk to the Charlotte Checkers. Most likely, they will not make anymore cuts until after their return from Europe.
The team now has 25 players, including the injured Sergei Samsonov.
At the beginning of training camp, Boychuk was one of the favorites to make the team, but the late addition of Patrick O`Sullivan and the solid, physical play of Drayson Bowman, made him the odd man out. The emergence of Jeff Skinner also hurt his chances.
While he is in Charlotte for now, he will certainly be one of the first callups when the Carolina injury bug hits. Boychuk will be back in Carolina, sooner or later.
