Reserve Tickets Now For Opening Night in Charlotte

On Friday, October 15, the Charlotte Checkers will be making franchise history as they play their first ever AHL game at home.  Their opponents will be the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.  As we mentioned earlier, the Checkers have graciously offered to give Canes Country readers discounted tickets to the affair and we will be celebrating a "Canes Country Night" that evening as well.

Unless you request otherwise, Canes Country folk will be seated in section 115 which is in the lower level where the Checkers shoot twice.  Your seats can be reserved right now by emailing Mike Lappan at  mlappan@gocheckers.com.  The cost of the tickets is $15 each and there are no extra fees (like Ticketmaster) to worry about.  To reserve your seats, email Mike today.

We have also reserved one bus, (we can get another if it is needed), to make the round trip from Raleigh to Charlotte and back.  The bus will be leaving Raleigh at about 3 p.m. and will return directly after the game, probably arriving about 1 a.m.  (The exact pickup location has yet to be determined, but it will be in the Raleigh/Cary area).

The bus company gave us an excellent deal as a round trip ticket will be $20 for each rider.  Keep in mind, that price does not include food, beverage, or anything extra, the price is for the cost of transportation only.   The bus is equipped with free WiFi and has power ports so you can plug in and recharge your devices.  For more information about the bus, check out this link, Southern Express.

The first 56 people to pay for their bus ticket will be guaranteed a spot.  You can pay by using our Paypal account at canescountry@gmail.com, or you can mail me a check.  Please email me for that information.  If there is enough demand for another bus, we will get one.  Right now, the company has another bus available at the same price.

Some of you have mentioned taking the train, just keep in mind you will need transportation from the train station to your destination in Charlotte.  The station is not centrally located.  (There should be taxi service available there, check with AMTRAK to be sure).

The Checkers forwarded me one link to a hotel partner which can provide discounted room rates for the evening.  Check this link for more info, aLoft.

Come join in with your fellow Caniacs to cheer on the franchise's prospects as they make history in Charlotte.  It is sure to be a special night.  Email me if you have any questions or need more information at canescountry@gmail.com.

For those wanting to take the train....

There are tons of taxis that wait outside the train station. No worries there.

Also, I would HIGHLY recommend the Omni in Uptown. Its very comfortable, right next door to the arena, and is very reasonably priced (especially through Priceline).

Game ticket email sent, bus ticket money PayPal-ed. Come on Oct 15!

are you guys going to be around for the Oct. 1st game – I am planning to either work from home in the morning or bounce at 1/2 day …tailgating? sitting as a group? after party?

I’m thinking about “being sick” that day because hockey is good, but hockey for free is great!

Yes to all of it! Actually, I might not be able to get there too much before game time, but definitely want to sit together and am up for partying afterwards!

I was sort of wishing there was some kind of reverse airport send-off we could do on Friday afternoon, but I’m not sure how that would work.

I’m taking the entire day off (and ltd2point0 is on track-out so no truancy issues), but can’t make it a late day because we leave for Suomi the next morning.

Perhaps we could do it in the RBC parking lot as the players leave?

Tickets reserved. Gas money accounted for in monthly budget. Now I need to a) find my roommates some hockey spirit wear and b) teach them enough of the game so that they can follow along.

Be sure to explain that the puck has to be the first thing across the blue line, and how the attacking team has to clear the offensive zone if it pops back out.

That always seems to solve a lot of mystery for newbies as to why everyone just seems to mysteriously “give up” and even go “the wrong way” at times. :-D

Here we are now...entertain us.

Good call Elsker. It’s funny how much game-related stuff I take for granted now that I’ve been watching for a while; I’ve forgotten just how strange it can seem to someone who has never really watched before.

I’m dreading the first time I need to explain icing. I tried during the Olympics and it was not pretty. I may have to break out the twizzlers, junior mints and salt & pepper shakers to diagram that.

Play 20 questions with Canes’ players. I Spy is always a big hit as well. You could put on an old game and play Tripp Tracy Bingo-I can give you the prize photo if you’d like. ;)
