Hurricanes At Flyers: Game Day Preview
The Carolina Hurricanes, (4-3-3) look to build on a solid performance against Chicago last night as they take on the Philadelphia Flyers, (5-4-1) at Wells Fargo Center tonight at 7. The seemingly up and down Canes have actually been mostly up lately and have earned points in six of their last seven games.
According to reports from Philadelphia this morning, Brian Boucher will start for Carolina and will face the goalie that took his old job, Ilya Bryzgalov. Boucher had a rough time of it in his last start in Winnipeg and will be looking for a better performance against his former teammates.
Look for the Hurricanes to stick with the same lines which worked so well last night. The question? Can they build consistency with two solid games in a row?
- LaRose, Staal, Tlusty
- Skinner, Jokinen, Ruutu
- Dwyer, Sutter, Ponikarovsky
- Boychuk, Brent, Stewart
- Gleason, Allen
- Pitkanen, McBain
- Harrison, Kaberle
The Flyers are coming off a wild 9-8 loss to Winnipeg and will be looking to right their ship. They have lost four of their last five overall and have allowed plenty of goals, (25) in the process. According to our partners at Broad Street Hockey, the Philadelphia lineup will be as follows:
Hartnell - Giroux - Jagr
Voracek - Briere - Simmonds
van Riemsdyk - Couturier - Read
Shelley/Nodl - Talbot - Rinaldo
Coburn - Carle
Timonen - Meszaros
Lilja - Gustafsson
Chris Pronger remains out of commission.
The Canes have not done well against the Flyers recently. They went 1-3 against Philadelphia last season and the Flyers have earned points in 17 of the last 18 meetings between the clubs, (15-1-2).
In other news, Daniel Carcillo is under the eye of NHL rules czar Brendan Shanahan. The play where he shoved Joni Pitkanen into the boards during the opening period last night is under review. Carcillo was not penalized on the play.
The game tonight will be televised by FS Carolinas. 99.9 The Fan will have the radio broadcast. We will have our open thread cranked up and ready at 6:30.

This could be as ugly
As the Boston game. If the Canes maintain their composure it could be interesting

Supreme effort needed
My hope is that the Canes roar out of the gate, take the lead, stay interested in the game and never take their collective foot off the pedal. Will be interesting to see just how Boucher responds to getting the nod in goal. Lastnight I thought the team played well (for the most part) in front of Ward, here’s hoping they’re equal to the task tonight with Boucher in goal.
This is sure to be a physical game so I’m hoping our guys make it out the other end A-O.K.
“it’s clobberin time”
Megaweapon… Megaweapon… Megaweapon…
Another Critical Test
The Hurricanes team have a chance to prove themselves. It is going to be a physical war on the ice. If the Hurricanes match hit for hit without losing their hockey brains, they will be in the top four or five teams in the Eastern Conference. Philadelphia has been able to out-hit the Hurricanes in the past. It is an important measuring stick tonight.
I hope the Philly fans don’t get in Boucher’s head

Based on history and statistics, this is going to be a bad game. But I have a good feeling. I think the Canes come away with at least a point.

Now that I’m confused as hell about how good or bad this team is, I’m going with the same mindset that I had for both Boston games and again last night. I thought both times that we would be embarrassed and beaten thoroughly. Of course they won all 3 games and made a fool out of me. So I’m willing to take being wrong, as long as they keep playing well. We’ll see what happens, but Philly in a b2b, after their 9-8 loss, and the money that I’m sure Lavi put on the board… I’m thinking this could be ugly. Go Canes’
