Hurricanes recall Brett Sutter

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled forward Brett Sutter on an emergency basis from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).

This marks the first recall to Carolina for the 23-year-old Sutter, who was acquired by the Hurricanes from Calgary on Nov. 17 along with Ian White. The Viking, Alb., native began the 2010-11 season with the Flames, and earned one assist in four games before being assigned to Calgary’s AHL affiliate Abbotsford. Sutter (6’0", 200 lbs.) has scored seven goals and earned seven assists (14 points) in 33 AHL games with the Checkers since the trade.

Sutter has appeared in NHL games with Calgary in each of the past three seasons, totaling one goal, one assist (2 points) and 12 penalty minutes in 18 career games. He was drafted by Calgary in the sixth round, 179th overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Brett Sutter is the older cousin of Hurricanes alternate captain Brandon Sutter.

Hmm. That’s an interesting move. Wonder if he’ll play with Brandon?

Little to no chance, as he’s being brought up to directly replace Carter, not only on an injury basis, but also for function, as the fourth line center.

My guess is that the thinking was to maintain size and a physical presence on the fourth line, so he got the call over Matsumoto.

Plus, let’s just have a look at what we got here and give him a NHL road test. :-D

Here we are now...entertain us.

Who is he up for? If it is on an emergency basis, that means someone is injured.

Yea I felt stupid after I posted that. Didn’t realize it was Carter out.

Brett Sutter and the Hurricanes

I think people are going to be very pleased with how Sutter plays on the fourth line. He has a skating style fairly similar to Brandon Sutter. He also has a roughed approach to hockey. He has really improved his over all game since coming to Charlotte. I hate that Carter is hurt. He has been playing some great hockey for the Hurricanes; but Brett Sutter will also do an excellent job, I predict.

I hope so.

There is PLENTY of room there for him to exceed my expectations.

From following the Checkers

Sutter has improved …so and even if he is on the 4th line and #11 joins him…along with #19…man that line could see some real action…again “could”…butr i don’t see why that line couldn’t score a goal to 2…all of them have what it takes to put the biscut in the basket…

as fans, are we expecting too much ??
