Hurricanes Deal Ian White to San Jose Sharks

The long awaited trade has finally been announced.  The Hurricanes traded defenseman Ian White to San Jose for the Sharks second round pick in 2012.

We can probably assume that today's deals are a prelude of more to come, but time will tell.

The Hurricanes presser is after the jump.  Best of luck to White over on the left coast.

Defenseman played 39 games for Carolina

RALEIGH, NCJim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has acquired San Jose’s second-round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft from the Sharks in exchange for defenseman Ian White.

"We’ve been very confident in Brett Carson’s play with the Hurricanes this season, and that has given us the opportunity to make today’s trade," said Rutherford. "This move gives us some flexibility going forward, and we thank Ian for his service to the Hurricanes this season."
