Does #12 Deserve the C?

Stay connected for news and updates

I was just reading posts about which players will leave, which will stay, who plays hard, who doesn't. It got me to thinking....is there any merit into a team shakeup insofar as who wears the A and, perhaps, the C? Hear me out...at the Casino Night, all the young players were following Sutter around like he was a rock star/big brother or something. There definitely seems to be a clique of some sort forming with the younger players, with Sutter as their leader. Listening to the other alternate captain, Timmay, in his post-season interview, he talked about some on the team finally buying into the system late in the season; does that reflect Timmay being somewhat critical of some of the players? If so, and there were players not buying into the system until late, why wasn't this addressed by el capitain? Many on this board lament Staal's sometime lackadaisacal play, which leads me to the question...

Does Staal deserve the C? I know from a marketing perspective for the team, he is the superstar...so what? You could still market him and the team without the C. Hell, they stripped Brindy of the C and life went on. What about making Timmay the Captain? Or Sutter? Give Staal an A, say its about freeing him up to be more creative, weight of the world lifted off his shoulders, etc. Realistic at all? If so, who would people want as the Captain? If there is a massive youth movement, and all the vets are jettisoned save the core, I would give Staal an A, Sutter the C, and give the other A to Timmay.
