The Carolina Hurricanes got their experienced back up goalie today when they signed Brian Boucher to a two-year contract. The 34-year-old won 18 games for the Flyers last year. The contract will pay Boucher a total of $1.9 million, $900,000 in year one and $1 million in year two.
Carolina GM Jim Rutherford said today that at the end of the season, he had asked Assistant and Goaltender Coach Tom Barrasso for a listing of experienced goalies that the team should target and Boucher was at the top of his list. They were very pleased to be able to sign him.
This should be a solid signing for the team. Boucher had some trouble in the playoffs over the past couple of years, but he is an established backup who should perform better in that role.
