Canes Country's Game Guide: Red vs White Scrimmage Edition
The Carolina Hurricanes have released the rosters for tomorrow's Red vs White Scrimmage game, set for noon at the RBC Center. There are 22 players, including 8 defensemen on each side. Here is our updated 7-page .pdf guide reflecting those rosters. Click on this link to download: Canes Country's Guide to 2011 Training Camp.
The remaining12 players not taking part in the scrimmage will be practicing at the early session at 9:30. Derek Joslin was held out of practice today due to illness which would seem to explain why he is not participating in tomorrow scrimmage. Justin Faulk was moved over to take Joslin's spot in today's groupings.
Cam Ward also missed today's practice because of "upper body stiffness". Regular alternate Jorge Alves took his place on this ice
Sunday's scrimmage game will feature all the typical events from a regular season game, including the singing of the National Anthem, and three full periods of play with intermission entertainment. No word yet on who will coach the second team. This event is general admission so all seats are open to the public and a ticket is not required.
Tomorrow's match is the first scrimmage game held during a Canes training camp since 2008, when Peter Laviolette was coaching here in Raleigh. There will be a second scrimmage game at the RBC Center this Wednesday at noon.
The first pre-season game is set for 7pm Monday night in Buffalo, when the Canes face the Sabres. That game will not be televised, but will be broadcast on the radio at 99.9 ESPN the Fan. The first pre-season game in Raleigh is next Friday, Sept 23 vs Nashville.
Bob Wage is attending the practice this morning, and you can follow @CanesCountry on twitter for live reports. The last session begins at 12:30. Check back for his write up with quotes from the players later on.

Sounds like it was Bryan Allen and Ryan Murphy as the top pairing at the practice. According to Mo post practice, he’s going to keep them together tomorrow and in Buffalo to see how it works.

Great idea on Mo’s part to try Allen and Murphy together. Complementary styles and skill sets, and if anybody goes after the kid, Allen won’t be shy about stepping in. As I recall, Allen made some nice outlet passes late last season. With Murphy around, the Canes might move up the ice in a blink.

Ward will not play tomorrow or against Buffalo.
Boucher was always planned to start in the preseason opener, though.

So it’s Boucher vs Peters tomorrow? Murphy was to back up Boucher, wonder how that will work out?
Will they plug in Mahalak (age 18) to let him sit on the bench the whole 60mins behind Peters or go with John Muse with just the AHL/ECHL contract, age 23. I’m thinking it’s Muse even though he’s not really a Canes prospect. With the game Monday night they may not have Boucher play the whole game either and let Murphy play half the game.
Peters will be highly motivated either way.

Muse is actually a very solid goalie.
Probably not an NHLer, but he’s a player who has overcome a lack of buzz (and size?) to be productive throughout his college career. Nice guy to have in the system.

I know he is is solid – and I’d assume a better goalie today than Mahalak. But Camp is about developing Canes prospects, and it will be interesting to see how they go with this.
5-11, 185 means he’s bigger than Murphy or (Goepfert for that matter).
