matsumoto, Lindstrom to Florida for Dadonov, Trent

The Hurricanes have traded Jon Matsumoto and Mattias Linsdtrom to Florida for Engenii Dadonov and AJ Trent.

Star-divide

Dadonov is the best player in the deal, as he gives us another skilled forward who may or may not pan out. At 5'11 and 175 pounds he is a little on the small side, but the talent is evident.

He was Florida's lone representative to the All Star Game last year in Raleigh, and I own his shirt (which I found in the 5 dollar T Shirt bin at The Eye).

AJ Trent is a former Plymouth Whaler, and is AHL fodder.

I’m an idiot: it’s AJ Jenks. I have no idea where I got Trent from.

This is my hobby. Don't insult it.

WTF?

Why? This looks to worsen the Checkers this year taking one of their top players away. I see nothing in Dadonov’s background to indicate he’s got any NHL potential that can help us. If anything, it’s another Nodl, Tlusty, type of grab.

One wonders why bother at all??? this doesn’t help us, it doesn’t help Charlotte. What am I missing? This could easily have waited to the off-season. I sure hope JR would be more focused on the Canes’ needs…

It takes Lindstrom’s three-year deal off the books (he’s going nowhere) and Dadonov is the best potential NHLer in the deal.

Cory- Do you know if a player under contract counts against the 50-man limit while they are loaded to a club in Europe?

This is just a start

The Checkers imo will have alot of new faces on the ice next year roster space will have to be made for Rask/Hoffman/Murphy/Dumolin/Mahlak ,and likely Keegan Lowe and Brody Sutter alone.

It's a trade of current ability for future potential.

EXACTLY the kind of move this team should be making right now.

Personal attacks are the weapon of the ignorant.

I don’t think they do, but you still have to pay them

while I as a fan

am NOT too keen on the trade..but the Canes need to do something..as it was pointed on on the main blog,as good as matts is/was for the canes organization…I am not uber positive he fit in the long range plans JR may have locked away in his office safe…but like others..i’ll sit back and wait and see…after all the worst that can happen is Dadonov doesn’t work out …thanks for the question…
