@ the game if they’re lucky! I’m stuck listening on the radio. Gotta look into NHL live on my computer!

Beautiful goal by Skinner off a broken play. Tried to feed Jokinen across the crease, pass was blocked by Ron Hainsey and right back to Skinner. Backhander puts the Canes up 1-0 at 3:55.
I think Skinner was trying to feed Dalpe, not Jussi.
JR; please dump some players and bring the kids up to stay!

Looks like the Chris Mason mystique has worn off to the tune of two goals on four shots. This time, Tim Brent take a shot from no angle that bounces off Mason’s stick and between his legs at 9:28 to give the Canes a 2-0 lead.
So much for Chris Mason Hurricane Hunter!

Well, Mo said that he wanted it, but his offensive system was so stifling that even if they wanted to generate offense they were kinda cornered by the system. At least here, there’s some attempt at making plays, which you could see nicely by Stewart stepping in and being the second man on the boards to pry the puck loose and give Brent a chance to make that play.

Each team only has five shots, but it seems like the Canes have at least twice as many scoring chances. The fourth line especially has been impressive. (And, yes, LaRose is on that line.)
Give it time. He hasn’t had the chance to yet. /hatersgonnahate

Hope springs eternal – maybe the 4th line is comming up “Rosie” tonight!

Nice fit for him..Yet an expensive one for PK & JR

Talk about a fast first period. I think I can count the number of whistles on one hand. Canes get a loud ovation as they leave the ice with a 2-0 lead and a 7-6 advantage in shots.
Nicely played period—Muller talked about winning by defense and limiting the other team. We had quite a few good blocks of shots—not sure what was actually counted, and we were in the passing lanes a lot as well. Despite probably a low hit count, we played an adequate physical period—some good checks of their forwards took away ice and posession.
i liked it. And we were pretty dynamic in the offensive zone
I think Dalpe had a good 1st. He definitely has improvements to make, but a like his energy and speed with Skinner & Jussi.

He looked a little more comfortable, and a little faster—still needs to work on chemistry with is linemates—looks like he’s not sure where they are going to be or where he needs to play off of them…
I think a lot of that is just adjusting from the AHL where it’s so much slower-paced than in the big leagues. Down there, your line mates are a step or two slower and it makes an enormous difference in your positioning. That’s something that I’ve heard from just about every player who has ever been called up…it’s not as obvious on TV or in the seats as it is on the ice. Even fourth lines in the NHL are faster than almost anything you’d see in the AHL.

Nice save by Ward through traffic. I know it sounds like we’re beating a dead horse here, but the All-Star break could be a very bad thing for him, given how well he’s been playing and the fact that the Canes won’t have another game for over a week after tonight.
a good point you make
but riding cam is an unfortunate habit muller shares with he who shall not be named

Well, in his defense, Boucher was hurt about a week after he took the job. I think we’d have seen him a few times if he was healthy. That said, the way Ward’s been playing it probably wouldn’t be real wise to give him a night off, especially with the break coming up.
by Brian LeBlanc on Jan 23, 2012 8:05 PM EST up reply actions
If LaRose is hurt, it’s either nothing or a big deal, because Pete Friesen is still on the bench. Tlusty just left the ice too but it looked like he broke a skate blade blocking a shot. Wally Tatomir followed him down the tunnel.
Pete just went down the tunnel so it does look like an injury for LaRose.

Real Bush League play by Brent
Taking the shot after the penalty call. Don’t care for that!
TSN caught the same thing, and now Canes Gameday has confirmed.

Actually, on replay it was Ward that knocked Stapleton off balance and kept him from getting a shot off. You may now resume your McBain hating.
by Brian LeBlanc on Jan 23, 2012 8:17 PM EST up reply actions
Winnipeg had a 5 on 4 there for a bit. Sutter went down in the other end and took a while to get to the bench, so Staal was late getting pin the ice.

I hope we come back in the 3rd...
Cause we weren’t very good in the 2nd.!
Terrible period. Terrible coverage by Nodl on that Winnipeg goal.
by hurricane9 on Jan 23, 2012 8:33 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Nope, but if it required stitches he won’t be able to skate until those are removed. The break probably comes at a good time, though, because he might be able to have the stitches removed before the next game.

Man oh man….McMouthbreather looks so bad lately. I like his offensive game when it is clicking, but he scares me. Conversely, Joslin seems a bot more solid.

I expect he is the odd one out when Spacek returns, barring any trades

it’s jinx time the Canes are 12-1-3 when leading after two periods.

Things also said by Bob tonight:
“There goes the shutout.”
“I have a feeling the Canes are going to score on this power play.”

To be fair, it would probably be bad form for his press-kit photo (which the first one is) to be him in a pink blazer or some such.

Is Eric Staal playing tonight; because he really has had a very quite game. I’ve barely noticed him.

He has. On the ice now, in fact. But yeah, you wouldn’t know it. As good (and noticeable) as he was on Friday, he’s just as invisible tonight.

maybe this will work
when was the last time he scored?

Let’s not get carried away here. But I will note that his last four-goal game came March 7, 2009 against Tampa Bay.

speak of the devil, Staal just made a nice move and hit the post. so close

Holding the puck until he was challenged instead of passing to an open man.

when we have weekend events like the circus or other crap where they have less than 24 hours to get the ice re-prepped. :(
