The interview with Staal during the pregame show made me wonder how the ‘Canes performance stacks up against the rest of the conference since Coach Kirk was hired. They’re 12-12-7 since Maurice was canned, not a great record, but definitely an improvement.
Since January
I wonder how the teams stack up since the first of the year, since it takes a while to get a system in place.

I think it would be something like this running from Jan 1st thru today:

Kind of goes to show how much things tighten up in the second half of the season with the 3 point games. Also shows it is damn near impossible to catch up if you have a horrible start like we did.

Canes over the past 10 games 5 -1- 4
The Hurricanes over the past ten games are 5 – 1 – 4. To me that shows how much positive effect ditching Kaberle and adding Muller and MacLean have had on the team. It also shows how close the Hurricanes are to being a far better team. Shootouts and overtime wins often come down to one play.

Good screen in front by Staal, Price had no idea where the puck was, you need goals like that against a solid goalie like Price.

He was shown on camera getting on the ice before a commercial, and then he was gone, so I don’t think he is injured. The canes don’t seem like the team to trade a player mid game, but you never know.

Skinner is really seeming to like his spin move at the blue line—if he keeps it up right in front of defenders he’s going to get his clock cleaned again….

He covered the pass only. You cover the pass FIRST, and then when in position to cover the pass, you cover the shot with your goalie. He backed off waaaaaaay out of position when he could have blocked off the pass and got a stick in the shooting lane.

Staal...
Is playing his best hockey of the season. I know this season is a bust, but…next season can’t come soon enough. I think next season we are going to be awesome.
It would be nice if we went and got another top tier winger for Staal before the season is over though (unless we get a familiar face back), b/c don’t wanna see him having to get used to a new partner for the 1st half of the season again.

Well Stewart is not so bad after all
I didn’t see him play often bc he was playing in the 4th line, but tonight he was awesome
I wouldn't say awesome...
but he was playing much better tonight than he has the rest of the season. Seems like he’s playing with more focus now. :)
