Looking forward to this. Haven’t watched the Canes in a long time due to school/exams and the likes. Caught bits and pieces of the Boston game, and I liked what I saw!

Canes get the night’s first power play at 2:20. Matt Greene with a ridiculously obvious slashing penalty, hacking the stick out of Tim Brent’s hand. Nash (!) is on the first power play unit with Staal and Skinner up front.

by Brian LeBlanc on Feb 4, 2012 7:12 PM EST reply actions

Bad giveaway by Faulk. Kopitar is not the guy you want to be near when you monkey around with the puck.

Anze Kopitar makes it 1-0 at 4:58 on the power play. No one picked him up in the high slot and he one-timed it past Ward. Brutal defense by the Canes’ PK.

Biggest check of the night is laid by Patrick Dwyer on referee Stephane Auger. Nasty, awkward spill and Auger is favoring his right arm. Could have been a lot worse…it looked dangerous. Canes back to the power play on a Trevor Lewis penalty.

Canes 0-2 on the PP

Allen with a point blank try…that’s why he plays defense

Editing Manager of Canes Country.com

by Bob Wage on Feb 4, 2012 7:37 PM EST reply actions

Canes’ first good chance of the night comes up dry. Allen waited too long to take the shot on an odd-man rush and Bernier got over in enough time to deny the shot.

by Brian LeBlanc on Feb 4, 2012 7:37 PM EST reply actions

Harrison hurt in the Kings’ zone, looks like a knee or a cramp of some sort. Definitely lower body. He could barely stay upright on the bench. Now back in the locker room.

Update: hurt blocking a shot. Ergo, probably a foot injury of some kind.

Gleason with a takedown of Kyle Clifford in front of the Canes’ net. Which is all well and good, but he has to be smarter than that. Canes are now down to four defensemen with his penalty and Harrison’s injury.

Harrison is back on the ice, but he’s going to the box for a ticky-tack tripping call after a non-call on a slew foot a few seconds earlier. Canes back down to four defensemen, and with two of their penalty killers in the box that means a penalty killing tandem of Allen and McBain. Look out below.

by jbwhite99 on Feb 4, 2012 9:25 PM EST reply actions

Well, i missed the first, and since I had to wath it on the computer…again….because it was on NHL network and NOT conter Ice, I didn’t comment during the thread. Saw the comments about a bad start, and listened to the Kings announcers talk about the great start but then how the Canes evened things out and started re-attacking.

This team plays better defense with a better offense than any year under Mo….and given how Mo was supposedly a defensive focsed coach, it just seems to further indicate Mo should have been gone even sooner. Our GAA after Muller and Co. is looking absolutley fabulous in 2012. Given we’re missing Pitkanen, I’m thinking our defense should stay pretty solid going forward.

Now add some up front better scoring talent, draft, trade, FA, whatever, and we might have something.

Nice effort tonight in the last two periods.

At this point it would have to be Nash, especially after seeing him play on the fourth line tonight. I could see them moving Bowman back down after a few more games and calling Dalpe or Boychuk up, but barring an injury I think he hangs around at least for this road trip.

Anyone in Charlotte have an opinion on Dadonov? His stat line is not great (considering 33% of his points come from an EN goal and his assist tonight was a secondary).

by jfhammon on Feb 5, 2012 12:06 AM EST up reply actions

Dadonov looks a lot like Boychuck—goes for flashy passes, floats a bit on D, does get a little more physical. Have only seen him at 2 home games so far but Jenks (from the same trade) has looked better than Dadonov so far.

by Checkers77 on Feb 5, 2012 4:21 PM EST up reply actions

Boychuk has been taking BAD penalty’s in the game on friday he had 4 ,last night he got a 5min boarding penalty ,and at this point his ship may have sailed ,as with alot of player’s in Charlotte…Imo if your 24-25yrs old ,and a RFA/UFA it’s see ya in Charlotte with all the JR’s coming up it wouldn’t surprise me if 8-9 player’s are not offered contract’s…As for the Canes imo I’d be real surpised to see LaRose/Dwyer/Stewart next year in LaRose’s case it seems the team just play’s better without him for what ever reason it may be. Dwyer is a good soldier ,but can’t score at all ,and at one point that has to be considered even at his low contract. Stewart is just not consistent ,and that bad cross checking penalty last night is a good example.

by hellfish on Feb 5, 2012 11:37 AM EST reply actions

I disagree

LaRose is a quality forward with the kind of grit that coaches look for in a bottom 6 player. Dwyer can score, but he is not on a line that is designed to score. He has amassed some goals this year, a couple of which were shorthanded. Stewart probably isn’t going to amount to much more than a 4th line player.

JR has to make room

For the young guy’s ,and as it looks those 3 look like the odd men out in clearing roster space ,as there are 2-3 on the Checkers plus Rask/B.Sutter/G.Hoffman one of which could make the team ,and not to mention our#1 pick this year ,so they will be body’s moved.
