Interesting piece on real-time stat keeping from NHL Numbers. The post deals with the inflated home stats for a number of categories and compares them to their road counterparts. Real-time include hits, blocked shots, giveaways, takeaways, and more. Interestingly enough the Hurricanes home and away are almost identical by their calculation and seem to call it fair both ways. Hopefully a better, more accurate system can be implemented to standardize these stats.
As a fan, real-time stats are informative and go into a lot of ratings systems (Corsi and the like) that give us a better grip on who is making things happen on the ice. Because we know that it's not all about goals and assists. It's great to see more in depth stats like MyFriendCory has shown us in his last few posts.
