I bring this up because it has been the cause of much discussion and controversy on another site. With Ryan Murphy waiting in the wings and Bobby Sanguinetti plus Marc Andre Gragnani trying to break into the NHL one has to wonder what will happen. It seems obvious that Sanguinetti and Gragnani will start in Charlotte and likely play there for most of the year. But what about Murphy? Corvo-Gleason Faulk-Pitkanen McBain-Harrison seem like the potential pairings, so does Ryan sit in the press box? Does he split time with McBain? All the other dmen should be playing every night. But is it really fair to have one of these two young defensemen sitting in the pressbox every night?
No. To me it would seem McBain's time in Carolina is nearing a end. Murphy is essentially McBain with more offensive talent. Plus it doesnt make sense to carry around 2 very offensive minded guys who are both right shots. Some say we should trade Joni and keep Jamie, but what good does that do? We get rid of our only left shot offensive minded dman and still have the issue of 4 right shots. Trade Jamie McBain now while you can get a good return for him, if Murphy doesnt do well then both Sanguinetti or Gragnani can step in and handle the 6th dman role until Murphy is ready.
Now I'm sure everybody will rip this post to shreds with the "oh but Jamie score like 27 points last year and led our d in scoring your an idiot" blah blah blah. Think about it before you comment, it makes sense. Corvo wont be traded because he was specifically brought in to play with Gleason. Faulk sure isnt gonna be traded. So that leaves only one option. It may not happen right away, but if Murphy comes out and has a Faulk-like rookie year, Jamie McBain will be wearing a different sweater by years end
