If the Canes are serious about a playoff spot this year, a veteran presence would be a plus. Enter Jason Arnott: Size, some scoring, Cup experience, and a good 3rd line center option.
The real need for Carolina right now may be a physical defensive defenseman, but Arnott is worth a look. The big center scored seventeen goals and added leadership to a budding St. Louis Blues team. At 37, he could also come cheaply in a short term deal.
With Brandon Sutter gone, there are a few in-system options like Jussi Jokinen, Jeremy Welsh, and in stints, Tim Brent. Welsh is inexperienced and Brent is a better fourth line fit. Jokinen could also be Mr. Versatile again this year, bouncing around where needed. There's also journeyman Dominic Moore without a home again.
How about it? How should the Canes handle that 3rd line Center position? Vote and comment.
