What an off season we have had. The best one ever as a Canes fan actually. I had a talk with some friends and would like to get some insight from you guys. Here are some things to take into consideration:
1. With the acquisition of Jordan and Alexander we now have 2 very good two-way forwards. Several caps fans have told me that Semin was their best two-way forward and were sad to see him go. They also said his offense suffered due the type of play style that was implemented. Having 2 star forwards will surely help our defense, PK, and overall shots against.
2. Speaking of shots against. We have added a lot of size with these 2 forwards. Size and skill. This will hopefully lead to more offensive pressure and puck possession in the offensive zone leading to fewer shots against. Am I being unreasonable for thinking this?
3. Both the PK and PP will drastically improve.
4. This is the X-factor and the most important thing to take into consideration. Eric Staal in my opinion, is the best forward in the south east hands down when you factor in all things: points, playoff experience/performance, ability to stay healthy, who is on his line, and so on. With the acquisition of Jordan I think that Eric is going to be excited and pumped and so will his brother. Also, with the addition of Semin Eric will for the first time in his career have an elite forward on his line. Am I being that much of a homer for thinking that Eric could possibly have a career year if not at the very least return to 100 point form?
2 players don't make a team. But there 2 signings were very key and the Jordan one in particular. I feel like for the first time ever this off season we are a cup contender. Thoughts?
