OPEN ICE!

Stay connected for news and updates

The first four games have been interesting to say the least. We are watching the fastest evolution of a team I have ever witnessed. The most difficult part of hockey to watch is when your team has no room on the ice to move. In the past, Canes teams were about grit... Grind it out.... Persistence. I have watched the elite teams like Pittsburgh and Detroit run up and down the ice at will. Opposing teams seem reluctant to challenge them. Happy to let them roam freely in hopes they have an off night. Statistically, allowing dominant offensive possession will inevitably lead to goals against. Hence the success of those teams.

Why then do teams allow Crosby and St. Louis types to freely move about the ice? Well, I doubt it's to watch the highlights in SPORTS TONIGHT. It is because of the threat of being embarrassed or undressed by that "more skilled" player. The result.... Open Ice.

The addition of Semin and Jordan Staal has opened up the ice for every other player. Teams have to respect the skill for the first time on Carolina. That is a big deal!

The continued evolution of this team will mean higher scoring, more respect and yes.... WINS!

Bravo JR.... Bravo Captain Kirk.... Lock Semin up for 7 years ASAP!
