Hi Mr. Rutherford. I know what you're thinking. You see Rosie stand up to fight for Skinner the other night, he comes off the ice bloodied in battle standing up for his teammate. You hear the cheers of 'Canes fans. You know how open Rosie is to doing team functions. You think of him as a team leader.
But here's the facts.
The dude led Skinner into that hit needlessly. It was just another blind, ill-advised pass coming from a bottom-six forward playing in the top-six. He is always overslotted due to his enthusiasm and hard work, but he never seems to be successful, and often drags his linemates down with his lack of size and skill.
His stats over the last five years:
GP / G / A / P / +-
12-13: 29 / 2 / 2 / 4 / -2
11-12: 67 / 19 / 13 / 32 / -15
10-11: 82 / 16 / 15 / 31 / -21
09-10: 56 / 11 / 17 / 28 / -2
08-09: 81 / 19 / 12 / 31 / +6
He cannot effectively forecheck. He's easily pushed off the puck. He's too slow to back check. He shoots wide or into the goalie's chest with alarming regularity. He is often out of position. He takes untimely penalties.
Looking for a hustle guy? Pat Dwyer's your man. Looking for a heart and soul guy? #15 is pretty solid.
Please, don't be blinded by allegiance to a longtime footsoldier. We are in a beat-em-up division next year, we need to get bigger and stronger.
Please don't re-sign Chad Larose.
