The Carolina Hurricanes announced last week that they will hold a Summerfest - a midsummer celebration of hockey- from July 16 to 20 at the PNC Arena. The Summerfest will focus around the team's prospect development camp, but will include a first ever "Elite Players Camp" and a "Coaches' Clinic" where participants will receive instruction from Kirk Muller, Rod Brind'Amour, John MacLean, Dave Lewis, and Greg Stefan.
For the first time since I can remember, the on ice portion of the prospect development camp will be held at the PNC Arena. This means that the usual summer dry floor of the arena will have to be covered with ice, at least for this time frame.
The development camp usually includes several of the team's draft picks and non-professional prospects, plus other invitees. This could be the first chance for fans to see the Hurricanes' top pick in this year's draft.
The team will also hold their annual select-a-seat event during this time, as well as other activities for fans.
