I broke down all the new division opponents by GF and GA, giving them 3 points for being in the top ten of the league, 2 points for the middle ten, and 1 point for the bottom ten for the 2013 season.
PIT, NYR, and WAS had 5 points.
PHI, NYI, and CBUS had 4 points.
NJD and CAR had 3 points.

In the new alignment, a team will still have to finish no lower than eighth in the Eastern conference to make the playoffs. The Canes are consistently 5th or 6th in their division in the new alignment over a 3-year span, which makes the playoffs unlikely barring a deviation from their past history in scoring or defense. We're all excited for the draft and the start of free agency, but how much can the Canes change in the upcoming season?
