With all the hullabaloo about the prospects camp, I thought it might be fun to try and figure out who might be making the jump from Charlotte (or lower) to Raleigh this season. Here is a list of the current big club roster as it stands with regard to star players who you figure will be starters on offense and defense:
As for the forwards, I left out Bowman just because personally I'm not convinced he's gonna stick and may be trade bait somewhere along the line. I have Dwyer in there just because he's an all-purpose guy, and Westgarth is our resident pugilist (or so he's supposed to be). That leaves about four spots open on offense. On defense, I'm going with the concept that who we have is who we're going with, although Forslund did say the team is looking to dump a defensive salary. That said, there could be some movement of a defenseman up to Raleigh. Here is who I personally think may make the team:
Lindholm - because JR said he would
Rask - he's close by all accounts
Brett Sutter - he's got some "jam" as they say and could be a great fourth line fighter/entergy guy
and my sleeper forward... Nic Blanchard. He plays left wing, is 6'3 205, and last season did not look terribly out of place in Raleigh. (Personally, I'm rooting for Chris Terry, as he's got a sweet scoring touch, but he's small).
On defense, I can see Murphy making a move to becoming our puck mover/powerplay guy if we move Pitkanen, but if not I think he needs more development. He sure can skate, that's for sure, and I'd like to see him on the ice when Skinner's line is out there.
So the Captain's starting lineup is:
