Cam Ward's future with the team.

Anyone think with the Anton Khudobin signing, Cam Ward’s job could possibly be in trouble?

I swear I thought Khudobin would not sign with the Canes since he did not have a shot at the starting goalie role which he had to be looking for during free agency. But I wonder if JR talked with him, and convinced to come here, and said that he has the possibility of taking over Wardo’s starting goalie job if he does well.

I think this is a year Ward is going to have to prove him self as an elite goalie, he has the best defense infront of him probably since the 05-06 squad. So his numbers should hopefully improve. So if Ward struggles this year, with average numbers or worse, and Khudobin puts up good numbers this year. I honestly think that could mean Khudobin gets a new contract here in Carolina and Ward might get a compliance buyout next off season. I would really hate to see Ward go, been my favorite guy on the team since the Stanley cup. But it could be a good decision for the Canes in the future, if Khudobin proves him self as a starting goalie. I do honestly think Cam Ward is way over paid at 6.3 million a season.

I know a lot of people dont believe in Khudobin yet, but he has put up very strong numbers being a starting goalie in the AHL & the KHL during the lockout. Then came to the NHL as a backup and put up incredibly strong numbers. And defiantly think he would put some pressure on Wardo.

What do you people think on this upcoming situation?

My ideal situation is Cam Ward has an all star like year this year, and Khudobin proves to be a very reliable backup, and then the Canes resign him to be the backup again for the next few seasons :P
