The Carolina Hurricanes once again failed to take advantage of a team that had played the night before as they fell to the Los Angeles Kings, 3-0 on Friday night at the Staples Center.
Tyler Toffoli scored twice for the home team, who had just beaten the San Jose Sharks the night before. Toffoli has now scored in four straight games and the Kings have won four straight.
The Canes' record dropped to 2-5 and they remain one of the lowest scoring teams in the league. They went 0-4 on the powerplay, putting them at 2-29 for the season.
Carolina was able to generate plenty of opportunities and outshot the home team 40-28 for the game, but Jonathan Quick made all 40 saves to record the shutout.
Cam Ward played well for the visitors. He allowed the three goals on 28 shots.
Next up for the Canes will be a match against the Sharks on Saturday night.
Game Notes:
- Andrej Nestrasil left the game with a lower body injury after blocking a shot. He did not return.
- Victor Rask led the team with five shots on goal.
- The club was pretty dominant in the faceoff circle and won 62% for the night, but lost a key one in the third period right before the Kings scored their second goal which nailed the game down for them.
