Carolina Hurricanes 2011-2012 Game Analysis
Game Analysis: Lightning At Hurricanes
The Carolina Hurricanes avenged their season-opening loss, dominating Tampa Bay en route to a 4-2 win at the RBC Center. Chad LaRose and Jeff Skinner each scored twice, but the news wasn't all good as the Canes lost Jussi Jokinen for about a month with an apparent leg or ankle injury.
The win moved Carolina to 5-4-3 on the season, placing them in a three-way tie for fifth in the Eastern Conference standings.
Game Analysis: Hurricanes Back-To-Back At St. Louis, At Winnipeg
Despite holding early 2-0 leads in both games, the Carolina Hurricanes came away with just one point in the back-to-back games against the Blues and Jets that capped off their four-game road trip.
The Canes still sit eighth in the Eastern Conference with eight points and a 3-3-2 record, but the team's 82-point pace is clearly not enough to get to the postseason come the spring. The good news? The Canes are tied with Colorado for the most road games played with six — the Rangers officially have that many, too, but had two neutral site games — so hopefully some home cooking will get Carolina into a better spot.
Game Analysis: Hurricanes At Bruins
For the second time this season the Carolina Hurricanes toppled the defending Stanley Cup champions, winning in Boston, 4-1, in a penalty-filled affair that saw Bruins coach Claude Julien tossed from the game and several of his players penalized for losing their cool.
It took a while for the Canes to capitalize on Boston's lack of discipline, but in the end Carolina notched two 5-on-3 goals to put away the B's.
Game Analysis: Hurricanes At Sabres
The Carolina Hurricanes won the special teams battle in an unconventional way Friday, scoring twice shorthanded and tallying on the power play with less than 90 seconds left to topple the Sabres in Buffalo, 4-3, for their second straight.
Much like Wednesday's win vs. Boston, the Canes got three-zone contributions from the entire lineup. Eight players registered a point, but no one managed a multiple-point effort.
Game Analysis: Bruins At Hurricanes
It was a tall task expecting the Carolina Hurricanes to get their first win of the season against the reigning Stanley Cup champions, but that's exactly what the Canes did in defeating the Boston Bruins 3-2 at the RBC Center Wednesday.
Carolina got its goals from the defense, third line and fourth line, and goalie Cam Ward outdueled two-time Vezina winner and reigning Conn Smythe Trophy recipient Tim Thomas to push the Canes to 1-2-1.
Game Analysis: Hurricanes At Devils
Same players, different lines, same result. For the third straight game in the young season, the Carolina Hurricanes were in a position to win in the third period only to come up short, falling 4-2 to the New Jersey Devils in a rare weekday matinee.
The Canes already face an uphill climb, having registered just one of six possible points and looking at two games against defending champion Boston sandwiching a game vs. rival Buffalo over the next eight days.
