The Hunter

"The Hunter" Kevin Lowe, general manager of the Edmonton Oilers is at it again. According to recent news postings, he submitted an offer sheet to restricted free agent Dustin Penner of the Anaheim Ducks. It's a 5 year, 21.25 million dollar deal which is quite a raise from the league minimum Penner was previously making. My bet is that the Ducks don't match the offer and accept the first round pick along with a 2nd and 3rd rounder as compensation instead. We'll see what happens next! After his unsuccessful attempt to buy his way to Thomas Vanek's heart, apparently Penner is next on the needy GM's wishlist. Lowe is single-handedly driving the prices up for RFA's and UFA's everywhere. Is he stumping for a future job as president of the NHLPA? More about this later.
