Clap Your Hands

Are you good at clapping your hands and getting others to clap as well? You may want to consider being a member of the Carolina Hurricanes Storm Squad! Seriousy, there's a lot more to being a Storm Squad member than that, but now is the time to apply if you think you have what it takes. The "SS" not only supports the team at the RBC every home game, they also participate in other functions including charity events. It's a great way to get involved in the community as well as cheer on your favorite hockey team. Official tryouts are next week Monday, August 27th, so you need to get your application in fast if you want to participate. For more information, click here. Several girls will be needed since I know that long time regulars, Lily, Candace, and Holly will all be "retiring". By the way, guys are welcome too! I'm sure "Mean Gene" would like the company.

It's another quiet hockey newsday, but something Canes' related did make the News and Observer this morning. It seems that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will be visiting Raleigh next week. Team general manager, Jim Rutherford will be hosting a fundraiser at his home to support Romney. Now there's a shocker, a rich white guy supporting a Republican presidential candidate! I must say I'm a bit disappointed. If Rutherford is going to support a Republican, I'd much rather the money go to Ron Paul. Oh well, to each their own. I wonder how many players will attend the dinner?

Yesterday I started a new poll with the question posed, how many regular season games do you think Bret Hedican will play this year? While the question is purely hypothetical since most of us have no clue about Hedican's actual health, I thought it would be interesting to see what most of you thought, and whether or not people did have an opinion. Casonblog challenges local sportswriters to find out exactly what is going on with Hedican. I must admit, it would be nice to know. With only 7 NHL defensemen under contract, this is a huge shadow hovering over training camp. I guess all we can do is wait for the pre-season to see if he is 100%, or if he can even play. Rutherford might have to do some last minute, quick scrambling if the worst case scenario turns out to be true. Hmmm, ..... I wonder if Mitt Romney can play defense?
