Canes Finish Preseason With Win

Ray Whitney scored in his first exhibition game and Cam Ward pitched a 31 save shut-out as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Nashville Predators 2-0 at the RBC Sunday afternoon. Whitney had been dealing with a groin issue on and off during this preseason but said he felt fine after the contest.

Rod Brind'Amour also played in his first game, but felt that he had a "horrible" game.

Coach Laviolette felt that the game started out slowly, but the Canes picked up their attack in the 3rd period. He's got some tough decisions to make in the next couple of days.

Eric Staal scored an empty netter near the end of the game giving him three goals for the preseason.

The Canes tightened up their defense and only allowed two goals in the last three games after allowing 13 in the first three. The team will take Monday off but will back to work on Tuesday as they prepare for their season opener against Florida on Friday night.

On my way out of the dressing room, I had to take a snapshot of the whiteboard. As part of the postgame instructions, the team had to take care of some business which will hopefully help them out down the road. I wonder if the River Rats will get their shots as well.
