Jokinen Selected as One of NHL's Best in Shootouts

I was notified by a rep from Sports Illustrated yesterday that Jussi Jokinen placed third best in a recent player's poll asking, "Whom would you most want to take the last shot in a shootout?"  The sniper has already contributed in that way for the Canes since his recent arrival in Carolina, and has a reputation around the league as being one of the very best.

In 2005-06, he was rated number one in the league and early on in the season was an amazing nine-for-nine on shootout attempts.

In the player's poll, Pavel Datsyuk was voted number one while Alex Ovechkin placed second, even though he does not seem to have the greatest of stats in that department.  Wojtek Wolski and Evgeni Malkin rounded out the top five.

I'm told that the complete story can be found in the latest issue of SI which just hit newsstands today.  There is another teaser at this link

Speaking of Sports Illustrated, you can now find recently updated links to Canes Country articles within the "Hurricanes Hockey News" section at the top of the SI Hurricanes team page and we would like to welcome those of you who have "clicked" your way over here from that site.  Hopefully, you will visit again regularly.

We look forward to the continued partnership between SBN, Canes Country, and Sports Illustrated  and appreciate the heads up on this new article.
