Carolina Hurricanes goalie, Cam Ward, presented the Special Olympics of North Carolina a check for $11,860 this afternoon as he fulfilled a pledge to donate $4 per save over this past season. Ward met with some Special Olympic athletes in the Hurricanes locker room to sign autographs, present prizes, and hand over the check. The goalie had a career best, 1,741 saves in 68 regular season games during 2008-09.
Ward mentioned that the Special Olympics has been important to him since his days as a player back in Red Deer. This is the third year for "Cam's Champs" and the program continues to grow every season. For more information, check out their website by following this link.
"Wardo" continues to show that he is a winner, off the ice as well as on it.
Here is some video I took of the opening part of the ceremony.
