The Carolina Hurricanes announced today that they recalled centerman Jon Matsumoto from the Charlotte Checkers. Zac Dalpe and Drayson Bowman were both sent down to the team's AHL affiliate.
Matsumoto is presently tied as Charlotte's leading scorer and has 9 points, (3G 6A), in 10 AHL games. He scored 30 goals and chipped in 32 assists in the AHL last season. He has yet to play an NHL game.
The Philadelphia Flyers drafted Matsumoto in the 3rd round in the 2006 draft. He went on to score a total of 81 goals for the Phantoms, their AHL affiliate, but was never recalled or given a chance by the Flyers. He will most likely have a chance on Monday night to show them if they made a mistake.
Zac Dalpe and Drayson Bowman have each been scratched the last two games. Bowman had yet to dent the scoresheet and Dalpe has an assist so far this season. They will both have a chance to get some development time with the Checkers.
