Report: Hurricanes set to return Ryan Murphy to Kitchener Rangers

Rookie Ryan Murphy is reportedly headed to his junior team in the OHL, the Kitchener Rangers. Photo by Jamie Kellner.

We have nothing official from the Carolina Hurricanes, but Ryan Murphy tweeted the news himself last night at 11:27pm, and the message was confirmed by TSN's Bob McKenzie shortly thereafter.

Twitter / @ryanmurphy24:  Had a great run, learned lots. Time to return to my one of my of my favorite cities. #greatride

Twitter / @TSNBobMcKenzie: As @ryanmurphy24 tweeted himself, CAR has returned him to the Kitchener Rangers.

This morning, from John Forslund at 6:49am:

Twitter / @JohnForslund: Gotta love Twitter. Woke up this morning and found out Ryan Murphy is going back to junior because HE released it himself. #that'sdifferent

Murphy, 18, was selected in the first round of this year's NHL Entry Draft, 12th overall. As a puck-moving defensemen, his skills handling the puck as well as his speed and slippery skating are as good as it gets. He signed an entry level contract last month, but the first year will not take effect until he has played 10 NHL games. He did not play any regular season games this season.
