The Hurricanes announced today that they have recalled defenseman Brett Carson from Charlotte of the AHL on an emergency basis. Carson will be available to play Thursday night in Philadelphia, replacing Joni Pitkanen who was injured blocking a shot in the third period of last night's game in New Jersey. This is Carson's fifth callup of the season.
According to GM Jim Rutherford (via Paul Branecky), Pitkanen is expected to return Saturday, so this might be a short-duration callup for Carson -- which is par for the course for a player whose longest continuous stint in the NHL this season has been ten days (12/31/10-1/9/11).
