The Charlotte Checkers found themselves behind the eight ball on Saturday night as they were looking at a 3-0 third period deficit to the Wilkes/Barre-Scranton Penguins. But as they have proven in the past, this resilient team did not fold.
With less than 13 minutes left in the game, Chris Terry got the Checkers on the board with a perfectly placed wrist shot. A couple of minutes afterward, Brett Sutter would break into the clear on a nice move and score a goal of his own.
Just 30 seconds after the Sutter goal, Terry would tip in the game tying goal as he deflected in a shot by Michal Jordan.
Then with 3:18 to play, Zac Dalpe chipped in the game winner on a nice pass from Sutter.
The Checkers scored their four goals in just 9:18.
Dalpe finished with a goal and an assist, Terry had two goals, and Sutter had a goal and two assists. Mike Murphy made 32 saves to preserve the win.
The Checkers have now gotten by last year's Calder Cup Champion, (Bears) as well as the team with the best regular season record this year, (Pens). They advance to the Eastern Conference Finals and will next face the Binghamton Senators.
