SBN Hockey's Mock Draft is underway and there is a bit of a surprise in the results already. With the number one pick, Edmonton selected defenseman, Adam Larsson. Colorado then went with the consensus number one, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
Will there be any other surprises in this draft?
SBN management will be updating their story stream with two draft selections per day until the first round is completed on June 23, just a day before the actual draft. Canes Country will be making the selection for Carolina and that pick will be unveiled next week Tuesday, June 14.
We will also have our own mock draft and more about that will be published soon.
Speaking of the draft, in case you missed it Canes Country has been fortunate to have a couple of recent, excellent Fanposts submitted related to the draft.
Curiouscanesfan has published a very well thought out article here. Norwegiancaniac provided his thoughts here. Both of these articles are worth a look.
We'll have much more on the draft next week.
Yesterday, the Montreal Canadiens re-signed forward Andrei Kostitsyn to a one year deal for $3.25 million. The agents for Erik Cole and Jussi Jokinen must be smiling.
Compare their stats from last season.
Of course, Jokinen knocked in 30 goals the previous year. Perhaps $4 million a season is not too far out of whack for the Finnish winger?
Cole brings much more with his game than just points. He creates space and is a physical presence. For the right team, $4 million a season for him would not be out of the question either.
Interesting days are ahead.
