Now that the Cup has been raised, the confetti has been tossed, and the riot fires have been extinguished, the Carolina Hurricanes have a number of upcoming fan events underway to kick off the off-season.

June 22 – NHL Awards Viewing Party

Head over to Buffalo Brothers at 4025 Lake Boone Trail in Raleigh on Wednesday evening and find out the answer to the question that has been on everyone's mind... "Which suit did the Seventeen Magazine readers pick for Jeff Skinner to wear to the Awards show?"  Hopefully fans will learn the answer as Jeff steps onto the stage to receive the Calder trophy as the NHL rookie of the year.  Festivities begin at 6 pm and will feature a number of games and raffles along with an interview by Chuck Kaiton with another Calder (and Vezina) recipient, Hurricanes assistant coach Tom Barrasso.

June 24 - NHL Draft Party

If you're not fortunate enough to be in Minneapolis for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, join Hurricanes television broadcaster John Forslund and other members of the Hurricanes organization at Rudinos Sports Corner on 3101 Edwards Mill Road in Raleigh to watch this year's draft coverage.  The event begins at 6 pm with an airing of the third period of the 2006 Stanley Cup Finals (which happened exactly five years ago today, so Happy StanleyversaryCaniacs!) before joining the Versus draft coverage at 7 pm.

EDIT: Tuesday 6/21 - More details about this week's events from Canes Promotions.

July 22 - Summer Fun Fest

The 4th annual Summer Fun Fest will be held at the RBC Center on July 22nd, starting at 5:30 pm.  This event wraps up the annual Select-a-Seat week for season ticket holders and opens the RBC Center to new season ticket holders.  A live band will be on stage along with outdoor games and food concessions.  For the second year fans will have an opportunity to participate in a hot-and-cold eating contest with an opportunity to win a pair of 12-game mini-season tickets.  Guest speakers (TBD) from the Hurricanes will participate in a Q&A session.  Unfortunately, last years' event was rained out before the last event of the evening, which was a viewing of Game 7 of the 2006 Eastern Conference Finals against the Buffalo Sabres, so that game will be this years' viewing event (and never gets old, does it?).

September 11 - Friesen 5K

The 5th annual Friesen Run with the Canes 5K will be held on September 11th.  Participants will be able to sign up at the above link later this summer.  This years' event will feature the 5K race along with a Kids Dash.  Hurricanes players and staff will be on hand along with a live band and raffle items.  Proceeds from the Friesen 5K benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Eastern NC.

September 18 - Caniac Carnival

The 12th annual Caniac Carnival to kick off the 2011-12 season will be held at the RBC Center on September 18th.  The Carnival will feature outdoor games and concessions, the Crazy Caniac Challenge (now in its third year), player autograph sessions, and an open training camp practice.  Event times will be published later in the summer.

As always, you can always find event dates and links to these events and more on the Canes Country Calendar, lovingly cared for and published with pride by HMof2.  We'll also be publishing updates as other news and events become available such as the upcoming conditioning camp.

Finally, for all the Dads out there, here is wishing you a very happy Fathers Day.  I hope your day is filled with joy, honor, pride, and remembrance.  I'm headed off to go fishing with my own Dad.  Enjoy the day!
