Justin Faulk and Austin Levi, two defensemen selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in last year's draft, were both invited by USA Hockey to attend National Evaluation Camp this August to be held in Lake Placid, New York. In all, 40 players were invited.
After winning the NCAA Championship with the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Faulk moved on and played for the Charlotte Checkers late last season. Levi played for the Plymouth Whalers.
From the USA Hockey release:
The players will be auditioning for a spot on the U.S. National Junior Team that will take part in the 2012 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26, 2011-Jan. 5, 2012, in Calgary and Edmonton, Alta.
Carson Signs for two years:
It's been reported by several sources today that Brett Carson signed a two year contract with the Calgary Flames. The deal pays him $550,000 in year one and $600,000 in year two. The Canes put Carson on waivers in an effort to get him to Charlotte late last year, but the defenseman was claimed by Calgary. The Flames apparently liked what they saw from him.
The deal is a one-way deal, something Carson was hoping to get from the Hurricanes last year.
(The Calgary Herald is reporting that the terms are $500,000 in year one and $600,000 in year two. The Globe and Mail is reporting $550,000 in year one and $600,000 in year two.)
