Merry Hockey Christmas, y'all.
The Hurricanes are one of five teams who woke up this morning eight or more points out of the final playoff spot in their respective conferences, so the number of sellers is rather low and the number of buyers might have never been higher.
Which is to say that teams have some decisions to make before 3:00 Eastern rolls around. Right now it sounds kind of quiet out there, but we said that last year too - and by the end of the day, more than 25 trades had been completed. In other words, buckle up for five hours of insanity.
We'll keep you up to date on any moves involving the Canes, and you can follow the Canes Country Twitter feed of local and national hockey writers in the right column for minute-by-minute updates. In the meantime, talk amongst yourselves and feel free to figure out how, in your own little world, you can turn a few pieces of flotsam into Rick Nash.
Bon appetit!
Update: By popular demand, here are the different ways you can listen to and/or watch the Canadian sports networks' deadline coverage:
- TSN’s video feed is restricted to only Canada, but the audio feed is available on their trade tracker: http://www2.tsn.ca/window/tradetracker2012/
- Sportsnet’s video feed is available on Puck Daddy: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/watch-sportsnet-2012-nhl-trade-deadline-extravaganza-122609300.html
- Not Canadian, but NHL.com has a special edition of NHL LIve at noon.
- If you’re near a TV, NHL Network is rebroadcasting the TSN coverage, but if you’re at work this is likely a moot point.
