It's never easy to look into the future, but we will give it a shot here. With the eighth overall pick in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft the Canes might just roll the dice and select the goal scoring prospect from Finland, Teuvo Teravainen.
The Finn has excelled playing for the Jokerit U16, U18, and U20 brackets and is rated the second best European skater in the draft by the ISS. He also spent some time playing for Jokerit in the Finnish Elite League and had 18 points in 40 games while playing against older competition.
He is a bit smallish, listed at 5'10 or (11), but has that ever stopped Carolina before? He certainly will not have any trouble feeling comfortable in the dressing room as the Hurricanes already have three players from Finland on the roster. According to My NHL Draft, he comes up big in important games, and scouts love to see that.
Hockey's Future caught up with Teravainen at the Draft Combine and they have video of him here.
There are some good defensemen available with this pick, but the Canes normally shy away from defensemen in the first round, (last year the exception), and most likely will be looking for offense. We will see.

We will have much more draft coverage here at Canes Country, along with our own mock drafts coming up in the next two weeks.
