Hurricanes select Brent Pederson in fifth round

Former Kitchener Ranger Brent Pederson was selected in the fifth round, No. 126 overall. The pick marks the third time in four years that the 'Canes have drafted a player from the Rangers' organization.

For the third time in four years, the Carolina Hurricanes have selected a player from the Kitchener Rangers organization. With the team's third pick, No. 126 overall in the fifth round, the 'Canes selected left winger Brent Pederson.

Pederson recorded 30 points last season, 14 goals and 16 assists, in 67 games. He also finished the season with 52 penalty minutes and a +11 plus/minus.

Scouting Report: Pedersen has shown the versatility to fill many roles up front for the Rangers this season. His incredible board work and ability to come out with possession in puck battles has complimented his offensive minded line mates extremely well. While doing all the small things right in the defensive zone he works very well on the offensive cycle and shows good finish around the net as he plants himself on top of the crease. Brings a North-South game with a blue-collar work ethic. Lacks quickness and acceleration speed.

The Arthur, Ontario native is listed at 6-1, 205 pounds.
