Roster Update: Canes Reassign Murphy (For Now)

Tim Gleason has concussion, Ryan Murphy sent to Charlotte, Tuomo Ruutu on IR

The Carolina Hurricanes have made a few announcements and moves recently, other than the Zac Dalpe and Jeremy Welsh news.

It was reported by sources on Twitter today that Tim Gleason has a concussion.  Coach Kirk Muller confirmed the news at practice this morning.  The defenseman's status is now "week-to-week", although he is not listed on the injured reserve list yet.

Earlier it was reported that Tuomo Ruutu was put on the injured reserve and he is also listed as "week-to-week."  He is doubtful for Friday night.

The team just sent out a release that rookie defenseman, Ryan Murphy was being assigned to Charlotte.

It seems the moves were made to finalize the Hurricanes roster, which is below, but hold on.  There is talk on Twitter that the move sending Murphy to Charlotte is just a manipulation of sorts and the blueliner could still be playing on Friday night.

Defense:

  • Andrej Sekera
  • Tim Gleason
  • Mike Komisarek
  • Justin Faulk
  • Ron Hainsey
  • Jay Harrison
  • Brett Bellemore
  • Matthew Corrente
Forwards:

  • Eric Staal
  • Alexander Semin
  • Jiri Tlusty
  • Jordan Staal
  • Patrick Dwyer
  • Jeff Skinner
  • Elias Lindholm
  • Nathan Gerbe
  • Brett Sutter
  • Drayson Bowman
  • Kevin Westgarth
  • Riley Nash
Goalies:

  • Cam Ward
  • Anton Khudobin
That makes eight defensemen, 12 forwards, (not counting Ruutu, who is on injured reserve), and the two goalies for a total of 22 players, which is one under the roster limit.  Keep in mind, Corrente can also play forward in a pinch, if they keep him.

There is no official word whether or not Radek Dvorak will be signed, although the latest from the grapevine was that both sides were speaking about a deal.

What will the team do if they want to bring in Dvorak and bring back Murphy?  Stay tuned, things will continue to be interesting.

Skinner returned to practice today, but Semin, Lindholm, and Gleason remained out and it is very questionable who will be able to play Friday night.
