Number To Know

48 — Projected points for Justin Faulk this season, which would be the most of any Hurricanes defenseman since the franchise relocated to North Carolina. Faulk currently has 17 points (five goals, 12 assists) in 29 games, putting him on pace to set the team record if he plays all 82 games. Joni Pitkanen currently hold the mark with 46 points (six goals, 40 assists) in the 2009-10 season. Four Hurricanes defenders have registered 44 points in the season: Andrej Sekera (2012-13: 11-33-44); Frantisek Kaberle (2005-06: 6-38-44); Sandis Ozolinsh (2000-01: 12-32-44); and Sean Hill (1999-2000: 13-31-44).

None of the five players listed above even made it to 80 games: Kaberle played the most with 77 games, while Hill played the fewest with just 62 games in his best offensive season. Faulk set a career best with 76 games played last season.

Also, with 86 points heading into Tuesday’s game in Montreal, Faulk already ranks seventh all time among Carolina defensemen and would likely move into the top five (past Bret Hedican at 101 points and current teammate Tim Gleason at 105 points) if he continues at his current clip.
