The Carolina Hurricanes had trouble getting their powerplay going and only had 10 shots on goal after two periods, but got a huge game from goalie Cam Ward and went on to defeat the Colorado Avalanche, 1-0 in overtime on Wednesday night at the Pepsi Center.

It was the first win at the Pepsi Center in franchise history for the Hurricanes.

Ward made several key saves down the stretch to earn his first shutout of the season, including a breakaway by Jarome Iginla.  He also made a stick save on an open net against Matt Duchene which will make many highlight reels.

The Canes had a tough night offensively, especially on the powerplay where they went 0-5 for the night.  They were outshot 26-19 for the game but Victor Rask was the only one to light the lamp this game.

Rask made a power move to the net with just 1:49 left in the extra period to beat Semyon Varlamov for the win.  Ryan Murphy picked up the lone assist on the play.

The Canes will next take on the Los Angeles Kings on Friday night.
