The Carolina Hurricanes beat the NHL deadline for their opening night roster by two days, assigning four players to the AHL Charlotte Checkers on Saturday while returning defenseman Haydn Fleury to the Red Deer Rebels of the WHL.
The four players that will be joining the Checkers are forwards Brock McGinn and Derek Ryan, and defensemen Brett Pesce and Jaccob Slavin. Fleury is in his final year of junior eligibility and, as such, is ineligible for an assignment to Charlotte.

Ryan Murphy and Chris Terry, the other two players on the bubble to make the roster, have also been assured of their place in the squad for the opening of the season on Thursday night in Nashville.
