The Carolina Hurricanes beat the NHL deadline for their opening night roster by two days, assigning four players to the AHL Charlotte Checkers on Saturday while returning defenseman Haydn Fleury to the Red Deer Rebels of the WHL.

The four players that will be joining the Checkers are forwards Brock McGinn and Derek Ryan, and defensemen Brett Pesce and Jaccob Slavin. Fleury is in his final year of junior eligibility and, as such, is ineligible for an assignment to Charlotte.

With the final roster due to the NHL by Tuesday afternoon, it appears that the Canes will carry 22 players on their opening-night roster. Noah Hanifin has made the team, and congratulations are in order to Joakim Nordstrom and Michal Jordan, who have both made an opening-night NHL roster for the first time. Ryan Murphy and Chris Terry, the other two players on the bubble to make the roster, have also been assured of their place in the squad for the opening of the season on Thursday night in Nashville.

Here are the players that Your Carolina Hurricanes will start the season with:

Goaltenders: Cam Ward, Eddie Lack
Defensemen: Noah Hanifin, Ryan Murphy, James Wisniewski, John-Michael Liles, Justin Faulk, Michal Jordan, Ron Hainsey
Forwards: Jordan Staal, Eric Staal, Nathan Gerbe, Andrej Nestrasil, Elias Lindholm, Jay McClement, Riley Nash, Brad Malone, Chris Terry, Kris Versteeg, Joakim Nordstrom, Victor Rask, Jeff Skinner
